Nexus 9 with Shield Controller topic

Is there any way to pair the Nexus 9 with a NVIDIA Shield Wireless Controller?

I know the 9 has wifi-direct which is what the controller needs.
Does anyone have the shield controller apk?
Or has anyone managed to do this?
